ASTM D5511-18
Anaerobic biodegradation of plastic materials under high-solids anaerobic digestion conditions
- Anaerobic Biodegradability
- Plastics
- High-Solids
- BPC Blue
ASTM D5511-18 is designed to yield anaerobic biodegradability as percentage of conversion of carbon in the sample to carbon in the gaseous form under conditions found in high-solids anaerobic digesters. The method may also resemble conditions in biologically active landfills where the as generated is recovered and biogas production is actively promoted by inoculation, moisture control and temperature control. Test materials are exposed to a methanogenic inoculum derived from anaerobic digesters operating only on pretreated household waste. The anaerobic decomposition takes place under high-solids (more than 30 % total solids) and non-mixed conditions.
BPC Blue is a fully automated biodegradability testing system suitable for ASTM D5511. It allows for continuous and on-line monitoring of released biogas (CH4 and CO2) and is a fully integrated and automated system for sampling, analysing, recording, and generating reports. BPC Blue is the perfect analytical tool that offers standardised measurement procedures, data interpretations and reports.
